How is our food made? How long does a can of ravioli have to travel before it lands on your dinner table? And what destinies does it pass on its way? In Canned Dreams we follow a can of ravioli on its long journey from its outset on the other side of the world and then through Europe, until it finally lands in our shopping baskets. Along the way we meet the workers in the chain of production and through their personal stories and dreams for the future, we not only encounter the premises of global food production, but also the universal validity of dreams. It’s beautiful, it’s ugly, it’s touching and it’s thought provoking. An incredible visual presentation and an impressive sound design work together to raise the film to a level you wouldn’t normally associate with canned foods. But this is what dreams can do.
